12 of my most Anticipated Indies

It’s not just the big releases that grab my attention, if anything it’s the smaller stuff that get’s me more interested. Here’s my most anticipated games, some yet to be released and some awaiting ports to Console.

Mewgenics

I missed out on the original craze for The Binding of Isaac craze and future releases of Rebirth, Afterbirth and what have you seemed impenetrable. I was interested in Mewgenics back when it was first announced. Obviously, it’s changed a fair bit since then but has clearly done very well in it’s launch earlier this year. As soon as it gets to Playstation, it’s go time.

Dead Estate

Honestly this is one that might have passed me by if I hadn’t seen the YouTuber IndieMaus (One of my favourites), playing it. It’s a twin stick roguelite set in a Resident Evil 1 like manor with a fair dash of cartoony humour. Not usually my genre but the artstyle and vibe seem very cool.

Industria 2

Industria wasn’t a fantastic game but it had enough going on to be interesting. It was a fairly small release but in the interim years the developers Bleakmill have garnered some more popularity. Industria 2 has released to a bigger audience and thus has been judged more harshly for being similarly mid. I’m still looking forward to it though.

Twisted Tower

If 2K won’t make Bioshock 4 and Ken Levine keeps deleting Judas files then its up to other developers to pick up the slack. Not quite as ‘Bioshock-like’ as other games since it’s lacking the left hand power, but you swap Rapture for the titular Twisted Tower and drug addled elite for bloody clowns and you have a game I’m excited for.

UFO 50

50 Games from a console lost to history is such a cool idea and I’m glad it seems to have done so well. It’s Day 1 for me as soon as it finally gets it’s Playstation port.

Hello Sunshine

A survival game but also a more linear story based one? Count me in. The premise of a post corporate apocalypse is a touch overdone but having to survive in a desert where your shade is a wandering robot is just a really cool premise.

Quite a Ride

At a glance it might be easy to put this down as ‘Pacific Drive, but on a Bike’ but it seems like there’s some mystery going on in the story with the phone you have to recharge and the truth behind the fog and monsters.

Happy Bastards

Why do yourself what you can pay others to do for you AND take the credit? That’s the premise for Happy Bastard. I don’t have much experience in turn based tactics games but the general theming - art style and humour of this one has me interested to try.

Tears of Metal

I can’t say I’m a massive fan of the Warriors type gameplay but if the theming is good (Say, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity), it helps carry the experience along. Scottish Barbarians fighting to defend their island. Mixing the Warriors with Roguelike is a curious choice and as I said earlier not usually my genre but there’s enough here to get me onboard.

Moulder

Monster Hunter x Pikmin but the Pikmin are horrible little maggots is quite the sales pitch and man am I sold. The retro visual style, reminiscent of something like Dread Delusion is also very eye-catching. There’s a lot of promise here and I’m eager to see more.

The Dungeon Experience (Bone Assembly)

“The Dungeon Experience is a comedy first-person adventure about a low-level mudcrab chasing his dream of helping YOU experience the true bliss of Financial Freedom*”. What else can I say?

Militsioner (Tallboys)

It’s been in development for a while (Not least because the developers have had to flee war-torn Russia) but I fully believe it will eventually come out. An immersive sim in which you have to escape a town that is surveyed by an emotional giant policeman. Admittedly there’s not been too much shown about the wider game but it’s so conceptually sound that it’s kept my attention for years.

Bonus: Buckshot Roulette/ No, I'm not a Human/Mouthwashing

Putting these three into one entry as they all fulfill the ‘Viral Indie Horror popular on PC awaiting Console Ports’ Category. Funny how there’s three of them. So far Buckshot Roulette has the most recent update, detailing engine problems as the delay. Mouthwashing and No, I’m not a Human were both announced over a year ago (15 and 13 months respectively) with no updates. I’m not worried though, I waited two+ years for My Friendly Neighbourhood to release and that was with even less updates. If I was a betting man, I’d say all three see releases this year.

Indie games are cool and with any luck all of these will see release (and Playstation release please) by the end of 2027.
