‘Not E3’ Season - Some Predictions
We’re roughly a month away from Summer Games Fest and the general ‘Not E3’ season and it looks like we’ll be due shows from the big 3 as well as Geoff with an all rounder show. These are a random assortment of predictions on what announcements we might see.
Prototype Remaster/New Game (Xbox Show)
Admittedly, I’m not sure what we see but I know there will be something Prototype related. Officially, we know there are extra people in the credits of the PC remaster as well as new testing materials. In terms of rumours, a playtester has said there’s a new game on the go.
Could they both be the same game? Maybe. There is the question of what a remaster could be as there is already remasters of the two games which are just upscaled from their PS3/360 releases.
Regardless, I’m almost certain something Prototype will be here.
We get to see the SAW game (Xbox Show)
Announced alongside a John Wick game in a Lionsgate news release, a SAW game seems to be in production. ‘Untitled John Wick Game’ was revealed at the Playstation State of Play back in. There’s not really any logic to me thinking it’ll be here at Xbox other than it being ‘the other’ place. Beyond that, they were announced at the same time so it’s not too much of a stretch to assume that SAW is also far enough along for a trailer.
(Returning to this, it has a chance to be in Summer Games Fest or even at another State of Play if Sony have the advertising rights).
Crash Team Racing AND Spyro?? It’s more likely than you think! (Xbox Show)
Following the revival of both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon series with remakes of their original trilogies, Crash saw a remake of Crash Team Racing, a full blown sequel and even an ill-fated multiplayer spinoff.. Spyro however, has seen nothing.
Right now, all signs are pointing to Toys For Bob, developers of Crash Bandicoot 4, are developing a Spyro sequel - something I am both excited and apprehensive about. Chances are that this releases this year. However, a leak from Beenox has players speculating we might also see a new Crash Team Racing game of some description. This one might be set for release in 2027 though.
Would they announce both at the same time? Very possibly - Might be Spyro at Xbox and Crash at SGF. Either way, oh boy, two cakes!
Bioshock 4 vs Judas: Battle for 2027 (SGF)
Imagining either one of these games turning up is a bold hope, expecting both of them is borderline delusional. Delusional I am though and I can already see both of these games seeing full reveals (Suppose Judas is already revealed) with release dates in 2027. Forget Exodus vs The Expanse, it’s the year of the Bioshock-Like.
There’s every chance that these two get cancelled or just quietly never see the light of day and if that did happen (or not happen as the case may be), I wouldn’t be surprised. Gun to my head? I genuinely think Judas sees a release before Bioshock 4. I just have a feeling.
Star Wars Jedi 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Part 3, Trilogies wrapping up (SGF)
I did have a little introduction for this section until I realised that they haven’t actually been releasing in the same years. Whoops. It’s rare nowadays that we get entire trilogies wrapped up in a decent length of time thanks to ballooning development costs and timelines but here we have the third and final acts of two different series that I’ve been enjoying.
Nightdive announce their first Generation 7 title (PC Games Show)
Roughly a year ago, Nightdive said they were prepared to start remastering games from the 7th Generation, which is a fair bit more modern than it’s other offerings. There’s not been any announcements on what they’re working on but the CEO has certainly thrown some interesting names around during interviews. Money is on Condemned due to the CEO and original creator (who retained the rights) being friends and Condemned disappearing from the Steam store.
I’m probably not going to follow this up with a predictions revisited article but I will be talking about my highlights from the season so stay tuned for that, probably mid June give or take!
