Fresh and Tasty Lon Lon Milk

From a galaxy far far away, back down to earth in another fantasy land comes the delicious beverage knowing as Lon Lon milk. This drink comes from the video game franchise The Legend of Zelda, with the first appearance being in The Ocarina of Time. Now, I can already hear you asking “Jade, isn’t Lon Lon milk just cow’s milk?” Well yes, but this recipe has a delicious twist on the typical cow’s milk, as Lon Lon milk is said to be very nutritious and even helps restore 5 hearts. So, get ready to have a big gulp before venturing on to see what my thoughts are on this recipe.

This recipe is made up of milk (I used oat milk), a green apple or apple sauce (I used apple sauce, as I had it to hand), vanilla frozen yoghurt and caramel syrup. You get all the ingredients, put them in a blender and there you have your very own Lon Lon milk, without having to pay 10 Rupees for it.

This drink tastes much different to cow’s milk and is much more pleasant in my opinion (then again, I can’t stand drinking cow’s milk). On the first sip, you are hit in the face with strong taste of apple, like an apple has just hit you in the face, apple taste. Once you have recovered from that, you are left with a pleasant vanilla caramel aftertaste. I do wonder how the apple taste would differ if I used a green apple as appose to the apple sauce, as apple sauce is much more concentrated, so the final product may not have been as strong, but to be honest, I really liked that strong hit in the first sip and the more you drank it, the less the apple taste hit you in the face and you get more notes of the vanilla and caramel. For this recipe, it required vanilla frozen yoghurt, which I could not find in the shops, so instead I bought vanilla yogurt and froze that to use, but to be honest, I think you could have use the yogurt as normal and added that, as the flavour profile was the same, and it was a bit difficult to get it out the tub once it was frozen.

Overall, this is a lovely recipe which I recommend and consider pairing it with a caramel treat to help add to the overall flavour experience.
