100% or Bust #1 - Resident Evil 2 Remake
Welcome to 100% or Bust, a subseries of The Platinum Road for getting the remaining trophies from DLC’s or just games that don’t have Platinums. First up on the list is Resident Evil 2 Remakes’ “The Ghost Survivors”
Stage 1: The Ghost Survivors
The Ghost Survivors takes the format of The Fourth Survivor (Which is a scenario in which you are given a character with a set inventory, a greater amount of enemies and a unique Point A-Point B pathway) but casts you as three different characters in a ‘What If?’ story scenario. Differently from the 4th Survivor, there are Zombies wearing backpacks that can give the player items and Mr Raccoon vending machines that give a stronger item, but only 1.
There are three from the get go, I played them in order.
No Time to Mourn (3/5 Difficulty) - 0:50. 9th attempt, 6:19:685
A radio message from a friend prevents Kendo from committing suicide after having to kill his daughter. He must travel from his gun shop down to the arena holding the G2 boss fight.
Each of the three scenarios features a unqiue enemy type not seen in the others (Alongside the usual harder enemies - Lickers, Ivys etc). No Time to Mourn has Poison Zombies. If killed, these zombies leak a poison gas. If regular zombies are caught in the gas, they too will become Poison.
Roughly two thirds through, you the option of the Upper and Lower walkways and both seem pretty rough. A guide suggested the top way to go the top way and while the going was rough, I did make it (on Danger health, a lucky break and no healing left).
The Runaway (2/5 Difficulty) - 1:15, 16th attempt, 6:27:253
In a happier scenario, Katherine Warren survives her encounter with the monstrous Chief Irons, instead turning a knife on him. The shortest of the 3 scenarios, Katherine must reach her boyfriend Ben in the RPD cells.
The Runaway’s unique enemy is the Pale Heads, the special regenerating zombies from the Resident Evil 3 remake (Not sure if they appeared here before 3Make, not bothered enough to check). They can be stunned with one magnum shot or five individual shots which makes up some of the challenge.
Unique to this scenario, Katherine has to get keys from backpacks to unlock doors, four in total, in order to progress. I was stumped earlier on in this challenge than I would have liked, with a lot of the challenge frontloaded and made easier towards the end when you start to know what the crack is.
The Forgotten Soldier (4/5 Difficulty) - 1:10, 22nd Attempt, 6:40:916
The final mission feels like it could still technically happen given it takes place at the end of the game. Playing as Ghost, a member of the UBCS who survived the arrest of William Birkin, you must make your way from the train platform Claire and Sherry escape from.
The unique enemy in this scenario are Armoured zombies which as the name implies, have various bits of bulletproof armour - sometimes only the head is exposed and other times the best you can do is leg shots to incapacitate and run past.
I was most proud of this one, having my route down to 99% before double checking a guide to see what I might have been doing wrong. Even then, I felt like my route was the better run for me. 21 attempts in my first set of runs led me to calling it a night but I got it on my first try on Day 2, the 22nd attempt.
Stage 2: No Way Out
After completing the first 3, you’ll unlock a fourth level, the unique, five star difficulty mode - No Way Out. Taking place in the Gas Station in the games prologue, you play as the poor sheriff who gets munched by a zombie. This mission isn’t an A-B run but rather a hold out against 100 zombies that arrive in a wave based fashion.
It’s not entirely unfair as your base pistol has unlimited ammo and as the mode progresses, zombies will have healing and more powerful weaponry in their backpacks. You’ve only got limited inventory space but since there’s no ammo to be found, strategic use of weaponry is a must.
Being the big final challenge, you’ll face all three of the new zombie types introduced throughout The Ghost Survivors as well as the addition of Poisoned Armour zombies because that was a necessary addition.
I made six attempts in total, split over two equal sessions - the first being 0:30 and the second being 0:40. Out of the possible kills, my scores were - 28/100, 65/100, 76/100, 56/100, 71/100 and finally 64/100. At that point, I’m sure I could have played more and got it but I think I was happy to say that I had given it my best shot. I can always go back to it as I’m sure I’ll be playing Resi 2 Remake for years to come.
100% or Bust? Unfortunately, it’s Bust.
Next up on the list is Resident Evil 7 and it’s plethora of DLC.
