Ubisoft remembered Rayman’s 30th… and the future is looking bright.
I’m generally quite interested in the gaming leaks and rumours side of things which can be a slippery slope – projects might be years away or not exist at all. Late last year, a rumour went out that there was some sort of Rayman Remake in the works under the title ‘Project: Steambot’. Completely uncharacteristically, Ubisoft put out a statement saying they were indeed working on ‘The Future of Rayman’. It was easy to see this as corporate speak but a year on it seems like things may actually be happening. Nothing confirmed but where there’s smoke there’s fire…
So to confirm what we already know, Ubisoft have revived Rayman’s official twitter account after 4 years of it being dormant, rebranded with 30th anniversary celebration profile picture and banner. The account promises a range of behind the scenes interviews, concept art and more. Things started with a surprise appearance from Loic Gounon (Rayman Brand Producer at Ubisoft) during the Rayman Alive fangame stream where they once again confirmed things were happening.
Insider Gaming, Tom Henderson’s leaking website, who previously reported on Project Steambot came out and said the project is apparently progressing really well and is on track for a late 2026 release. It’s still not been confirmed what it actually is but as speculated in this previous article (Article), it may very well be a remake of Rayman 2. Which version remains to be seen. Beyond that, a supposed Rayman 4 depends on the success of Steambot. Unless Ubisoft’s metrics are out of proportion, we’ll be getting Rayman 4.
That’s not all of course, the official announcement has made previous rumours seem even truer than they already did. Prior to the leak of Project Steambot, leaker PH Brazil mentioned that a port of Rayman 3 HD was in the works to help fill up a gap in Switch 2’s first year. This was later made more real by a renewal of the Rayman 3 HD trademark (the same thing that happened to Beyond Good and Evil before the HD release was announced) earlier this year. At Gamescom 2025, many developers mentioned that they didn’t have Switch 2 development kits yet or only recently got them whereas Ubisoft have had some for a while, lending credence to this rumour. Releasing 3 HD on modern platforms as part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations just seems like a slam dunk idea.
Just when you think that’s enough, a completely unrelated rumour has come into play. Back in May, Nintendo released an NSO overview video, showing off their retro games service. Several games in the background were blurred out, with people believing them to be Smash 64 and Donkey Kong 64. With the newest release – N – being one of the blurred games, people have revisited the image. Long story short, one of the games could very well be Rayman 2: The Great Escape, again on N64. With the 30th anniversary celebrations, another easy release to boost awareness and hype for the remake.
We’ll have some kind of update in the next 10 days or so when the next Nintendo Direct drops but right now at worst a Rayman 2 Remake and at best Rayman 2 64 on NSO, Rayman 3 HD port on modern consoles and the Rayman 2 Remake. Rayman might very well be back folks. It’s a good day.
