My Most Anticipated Games of 2026
This is the third version of this list; the original list had 30 odd entries which later blossomed into 50. While I’m certainly interested in 50+ games, I can’t say they’re all my most anticipated. So now, a do-over. My most anticipated games, from Indies to AAAA, set to release in 2026 (at the time of writing)
Ordered by release date first, then alphabetically. Not a ranked list
Romeo is a Dead Man (11/2)
Grasshopper’s first new IP since Let it Die, Romeo is a Dead Man looks like the culmination of all of Suda51’s previous back and slash works - No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned and Lollipop Chainsaw. It doesn't look terribly high budget but it does look very fun and stylish and I'd take that any day.
Resident Evil Requiem (27/2)
Despite a truly bizarre roll-out of information for this game and the infinite about leaking the title, it really does look promising. A mix of slower horror with Grace and faster more action packed horror with returning character Leon. We’ve still not seen loads from the game but It’s a very easy day one purchase.
Pokemon Pokopia (5/3)
Following on from some sort of Pokémon apocalypse (?), you're a ditto who turns into a cute little slime person and are in charge of rebuilding and attracting Pokémon back.
That's all speculation, admittedly I've not seen much beyond the initial trailer but I'm sold on my vague understand of the games concept alone. The new types of Pokémon like Professor Tangrowth and the like are also very intriguing.
Pragmata (24/4)
Pragmata looks like a Sega game in the PS3/360 era and I say that as the utmost praise. A new IP with a new interesting dual shooting/hacking mechanic coming in at a cheaper retail price. Even if it turns out rubbish (which previews say shouldn't be the case), it's well worth a look.
007: First Light (27/5)
James Bond games were a dime a dozen once upon a time but it’s been a long time since the last - IO interactive are bringing him back in the style of Hitman meets Uncharted. It’s going to live or die based on it’s gameplay so I’ll have to wait and see how it plays. I have faith though, given IO’s pedigree.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (29/5)
You wait long enough for another Lego Batman and/or Batman Arkham and something comes along that combines both - Legacy of the Dark Knight. Doing something unique for Lego - it’s a new story that takes elements from the Nolan Trilogy, the Reeves movie and the Arkham saga and makes it into a unique narrative. The last major Lego game - The Skywalker Saga - was a disappointment but I have faith in this one.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
This one is on the list as a bit of a technicality because there's absolutely 0 we know about the game - well we know it's a prequel that doesn't have the series signature rats so there's no real grounds for speculation. The previous two games were bangers so no reason to doubt this one would be as well.
The Blood of the Dawnwalker
My original script for this bit was quite sarky about this being a full version of Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine DLC thanks to the studio being formed of Witcher Devs and the theming being the same but it's actually a good thing, it's a great start for a fresh project.
It seems like the team at Rebel Wolves are crafting quite an interesting RPG with it's supposed non linear narrative and mechanics. I'll have to get my hands on it to see what the crack is but it could be a sleeper hit for the year.
Control: Resonant
We knew Control 2 was in development thanks to the way Remedy does it’s quarterly investor reports, and before the Game Awards it was leaked that something by the name of ‘Control: Resonance’ was going to be announced. Surprise! Control 2 is now Control: Resonance and it’s coming out in 2026??
It’s a very pleasant surprise considering that we expected the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 to come out in 2026 with Control 2 being 2027. Not sure what’s happening with Max but Control is looking very cool. Leaving behind The Oldest House for the wider Manhattan and swapping Jessie out for his brother Dylan, complete with ever changing melee weapon.
Remedy are on a tear with the original Control and Alan Wake 2 so this may be my most anticipated title for 2026.
Darksiders 4
I’m still in disbelief that project even exists, I fully expected this franchise to never see it’s story brought to conclusion. Yet, sometimes life is okay and this B tier series is getting a new entry that will continue the story that was started 15 years ago. We know very little about the game at present but I’ll be there no matter what.
The Duskbloods
While Nintendo is seemingly in charge of the marketing for FromSoftware’s next title, content updates are seemingly at the end for the current Elden Ring: Nightreign so it should be full steam ahead for their next game.
The Duskbloods is fighting an uphill battle being both a PvPvE game and a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive but I like what (the very little) they’ve shown of the game so far. I bought a PSVR for Deracine but luckily I already own a Nintendo Switch 2 so all I need to do is wait.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn
This was originally a joint entry between the The Expanse: Osiris Reborn and Exodus but the latter has been delayed further into 2027 so just the former now.
I know literally nothing about The Expanse as an IP, but I do own the Telltale game and the first book so I’ve got the resources to do my research before this game releases. If nothing else, it’s a ‘new’ IP that looks like Mass Effect, a series I recent;y played and loved.
Halo: Campaign Evolved
Once upon a time, this would be seen as the end times. Now? Just the way the wind has blown for Microsoft. Personally I would have liked the Mastechief Collection - Halo 1/2/3/ODST/Reach/4 from the get go with 5 and Infinite to come but this is still a good foot in the door. It’s the original Halo, there’s not much to really discuss - it’s just going to be fun to play.
Industria 2
I firmly believe Industria to be a hidden gem - beneath the low budget and the jank there was a story written with passion. I'm glad it's getting a sequel because from what we’ve seen, it makes the first game look like a prologue or tech demo.
Almost going for a modern Half Life vibe mixed with some always good inventory management, the sequel looks to be what the original game was meant to be.
Pokemon – Winds and Waves?
We won’t know officially until Pokemon Day in February but the leaks are all but confirmed that the next pair of games, the introduction of Generation 10, will be known as Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves and seems to be inspired by Indonesia and neighboring countries.
Naturally we won’t find anything out about new Pokemon or new gimmicks or anything like that for a while but the leaks do seem to show a Pokemon game with some genuine ambition. We’ve been here with Scarlet and Violet but I live in hope that this is the year things change.
Rayman: The Great Escape Remake
Still not officially confirmed, nearly to the same extent that the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake is not officially confirmed, Ubisoft have a year of celebrating Rayman’s 30th anniversary and the leaks and signs point to a remake of the second game in the series, the first 3D title - The Great Escape.
I only played The Great Escape for the first time in the last week or so thanks to it’s inclusion in Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 launcher, having only played the original PS2 ‘Remake’ in my childhood. I love both versions so I’d be happy for the remake to adapt either version or go for a new direction again. It’s just nice to see Rayman back on the main stage.
Showa American Story
1980’s Japan takes over 1980’s America and you play as a resurrected stunt woman who travels on a motorbike and fights zombies. Frankly an incredible concept and even if it’s absolutely rubbish I’ll be there day one for vibes alone.
Silent Hill Townfall
Konami seem all in on releasing a new Silent Hill game every year, this would be a cause for concern but if they’re going to be as diverse as they’re seemingly going to be, it’s all good.
We don’t actually know what the game is about but given Screen Burn’s (formerly NoCode) previous titles, it’ll be first person which is a change for the series. Rumours also have it as episodic (Like within the game) letting it explore different stories. The possibilities are there for definite.
Star Wars: Galactic Racers + Star Wars: Zero Company
Two big production Star Wars titles set to release in 2026. Neither of them are the Knights of the Old Republic but what can you do. One is a racer and the other is a turn based XCOM like strategy game set during The Clone Wars, which happens to be my favourite era of the universe. I need a little more convincing for Galactic Racer but Zero Company is a done deal.
Stupid Never Dies
An amusing little announcement from The Game Awards preshow, the title looks like Suda51 with a ton of early 2000’s cringe but in a surprisingly endearing way. Gameplay wise it looks decent. perhaps thanks to it’s pedigree of developers. I think I’ll have to see some more.
Terminator: Survivors
I’m not convinced this game is coming out in 2026 due to the recent update on development. Originally a multiplayer version of Resistance, but could be played solo but now the game is being retooled into a single player title. I don’t know how much this will affect the game but I feel like it can only be a good thing.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Following some years of uncertainty following Amazon’s purchase of the franchise, we now know of the next two major titles - 2027 has a brand new entry by the name of Catalyst whereas 2026 has a full blown remake of the first game, which looks pretty good. I’ve not played the original so 2026 will be a goodd time to get into the franchise.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Admittedly my faith in this project was shaken ever so slightly by my middling opinions of Spider-Man 2 but the full reveal trailer of the game has done away with any doubts I have - it looks sufficiently violent and chaotic as it needs to and more importantly - as far as I can tell it’s going to be level based rather than it being a sandbox. There’s even the chance that Mystique is playable which is pretty cool too.
Xbox Ports – Avowed, Keeper, South of Midnight, Starfield
It’s already been confirmed a million times over that Xbox Games are going to be coming to over Platforms, it jus takes a while for them to make the announcements - seemingly trying to keep some kind of period of exclusivity.
As of right now, South of Midnight is the only one with an official announcement but Avowed and Starfield both have upcoming DLC or major content updates set for early 2026 where ports of the ‘Complete’ editions would make sense. Finally is Keeper, easily the smallest game here and given that other DoubleFine games make it to Playstation, I’m sure this one will be sooner rather than later.
Xbox New Releases - Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Gears of War E-Day
We’re waiting for Xbox’s Developer Direct in January for release dates for these but I’m fairly confident all of these games are seeing 2026 release dates and we’re almost definitely reaching console release parity.
Gears E-Day admittedly I’m not super bothered about - like I’'ll buy and play it but the other two are the ones I’m really excited for - RPG’s in two very different styles and settings but both equally intriguing to me.
Check back this time next year to see to see if any of the games lived up to the hype that comes with the most anticipated list!
