A Small, Self-Reflective Update – 28/7/2025

At the end of June, I hit a kind of emotional wall when it comes to Games, I felt like I was falling back into old habits where I spent more time planning to play a game and optimising my time playing than just sitting back and enjoying it. At the time, I did intend to write an article about my feelings, something along the lines of “How you play Games is just as important as playing them”. The feeling subsided after a few days and by then I thought the article wasn’t worth writing. Fast forward to now, the end of July, I have a different problem forming.

I am keenly aware of myself – passionate with big ideas, aspirations to do really cool things. I also know that I’m lazy (or perhaps depressed) and unwilling or unable to put in the work to make these big ideas a reality, I over promise things in the hopes that if I put them to paper that I’ll feel obliged and required to do them. Sadly this isn’t the case.

This all sounds very dramatic and it is for what the problem is but since it’s a problem of my own making based on my on very disliked character flaws, they resonate a lot more than they probably should do. For example, I’ve not kept up with any of the ’52 in 52’ updates I said I would, ‘Summer to Summer of Sonic’ got delayed from Northern to Southern Hemisphere Summer and I’m still no closer than I was when I delayed it in the first place. The one that really got the heckles up is my ‘Road to Legends Z-A’ series on New Side Quest! The plan was to play a monthly Pokemon game leading into the release of Z-A, with a total of 5 articles – I’ll be lucky if I get the second one done. Not much of a series, is it?

So, I took a step back to look. I think I’ve got a good thing going with how things are now – the trifecta of ‘Reviews’, ‘Retrospectives’ and ‘New Side Quest!’ Are a really good mix of detailing games while ‘Features and Opinions’ is perfect for that kind of content. The jury is still out on ‘For the Love of the Game’, that’s something I want to look at and see if there are any changes that can be made. The series on these are good to stay but I think I’ll be getting rid of these mini series.

‘New Side Quest!: The Road to Z-A Part 1 – X: The Softcore Nuzlocke’ will be moved to For the Love of the Game and renamed to something more appropriate

There will be no end of year update for 52in52, replaced by something else like an end of year trophy update.

The next update, which will land anywhere between Late Oct/Early Nov and like the end of February, should be a significant one and will detail some big changes coming to the sight. Given the start of this update the irony isn’t lost on me but I refuse to put a time frame on these changes and the changes themselves aren’t necessarily drastic but will affect the website in a good, big way.

CraigPlaysGames continues on. Thanks to everybody who has read an article and continues to read them
